PIETRO CAPRARA
"I’m Pietro Caprara, and in the last 30 years, I have held the positions of track engineer, crew chief, technical director, and head technician in the MotoGP™ World Championship. In this guide, I will drive you in the discovery of a wonderful, engaging, and rewarding profession. How to live the most beautiful racing experience in your career."
I started in the racing world in 1996 when the top class was the 500 cc. Having done the thesis on an electro-hydraulic correction system that equipped the Bugatti EB110 SSP and having for my passion implemented a vehicle parameter management system integrated with telemetry, with the result of making it faster than what was available at that era in the motorcycle racing, Yamaha asked me to take care of data acquisition for the test team in the 500 class. My career in the world Grand Prix began alongside Luca Cadalora, Simon Crafar, Régis Laconi, Norick Abe.Three years later I became crew chief on Honda 250 with Stefano Perugini. At the beginning of 2000 I joined Aprilia, experiencing great successes and results, as a track chief engineer with Simone Sanna, Roberto Locatelli, Casey Stoner, Alex De Angelis, Louis Salom, YÅ«ki Takahashi and Jeremy McWilliams.
I continued my career in MotoGP™ as chief engineer with Andrea Dovizioso, Honda, and for many years alongside Alex DeAngelis, going through the regulation changes in the different categories, growing up, since 2014, the role of Technical Director of the entire Sky Racing Team VR|46 together with Andrea Migno, Romano Fenati, Pecco Bagnaia, Stefano Manzi and Nicolò Bulega.
In the last years, I came back to Aprilia as crew chief and track engineer of Aleix Espargarò, Andrea Iannone and Bradley Smith. Then in the World Superbike Championship as Team Manager and KRA, Kawasaki Racing Advisor. From 2021 to 2023, I have obtained the NLP Coach certification.
